KAMPALA – On Tuesday, September 15, 113 Ugandan women stranded in Saudi Arabia returned home aboard a charter flight arranged by IOM.

It was one of the outcomes of an appeal made by Finance Minister Sam Kutesa in May to UN Resident Coordinator Rosa Malango, to help return Ugandans stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 disruptions and economic downturn.

Prompted by RC Malango, IOM Uganda worked with its Regional Office in Nairobi, IOM Bahrain, the Uganda Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other stakeholders to execute the mission.

IOM Uganda Chief of Mission Sanusi Tejan Savage and his team of Meidcal, Movement and Protection staff were at Entebbe Airport to receive the travellers, along with the Ministry of Health and Immigration officials.
